Family Fun Shop: Crazy Caricatures
Have Maria Bolton-Joubert, a professional caricature artist, transform you into a hilarious piece of art. History Center Anniversary and Smithsonian Museum Day
The Orange County Regional History Center celebrates its ninth anniversary in the historic 1927 courthouse in downtown Orlando with dancers, mascots, and more from Central Florida sports teams including the Orlando Magic, Tampa Bay Rays, Orlando Punishers, Orlando Mayhem, and others. The museum also joins the nationwide Smithsonian Museum Day by opening its doors free of charge to SMITHSONIAN magazine readers and Smithsonian.com visitors. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Your free "Smithsonian Museum Day" admission card is available online at www.smithsonianmag.com. Trick or Treat Safe Zone
Bring your children to the History Center for a safe, fun trick or treat adventure. Ghouls and goblins enjoy three floors of trick or treating along with creepy crafts, revolting refreshments, and a not-so-scary Mystery House. History Center Book Club: "The Last Timucuan"
Award-winning author Fredric M. Hitt returns with his story of the Timucua Indians of early Florida. The year is 1704 - great European powers vie each other for dominance with the Indians of La Florida standing in the line of fire. History Center Holiday at Heritage Square
Bring friends and family to the museum for a festive holiday celebration. Mayor Richard Crotty flips the switch to light the square at sundown, then explore the museum, enjoy musical performances, visit with Santa, create holiday crafts, and more. Looking East
Looking East features stunning photographs by Steve McCurry, known all over the world for his iconic images, including the green-eyed Afghan girl featured on the cover of National Geographic magazine, and poignant portraits of children, pilgrims, monks, miners, and travelers McCurry encountered on his journeys throughout Afghanistan, India, Sri Lanka, Cambodia, Tibet, and Myanmar (Burma). The heART of the Homeless: Art by Coalition Children
The History Center hosts this exhibit from the Coalition of the Homeless of Central Florida in its grand staircase featuring photographs taken by children in the Art by Coalition Children program. The program provides an outlet for these children to express and discover themselves in a nurturing environment where they can explore the arts and build self-confidence. Included in general admission.
The Orange County Regional History Center, housed in a restored historic five-story 1927 courthouse in downtown Orlando, showcases the vast collections of the Historical Society of Central Florida, Inc. The museum features three floors of permanent exhibitions and also presents nationally important limited-run exhibitions. The museum is an affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution and accredited by the American Association of Museums.
The History Center is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. General admission* is $9, seniors (60+) and students with valid I.D. are $7, and children ages 5-12 are $6. Historical Society Members, Orange County employees, and children 4 and under are free. *Special admission prices may apply for limited-run exhibitions.
